Arisaema nepenthoides

Description

Arisaema nepenthoides is an attractive arum like plant known collectively as ‘Cobra Lily’ due to the flowering spathe having the hooded appearance of the arching head of a striking cobra. Originating from the forest floor of the Himalayas, Arisaema nepenthoides is capable of reaching 100cm high on a single robust orange and purple mottled stems which when mature are topped by the striped purple, white and pale green flowering spathe. To add to the effect the deep glossy green leaves are held horizontally close to the upper reaches of the stem in an architectural manner.

Arisaema nepenthoides is one of the hardier members of the ‘Cobra Lily’ family and given good winter drainage planted in a humus rich soil should be hardy enough planted outside year round in milder U.K gardens just remember it naturally grows in dappled shade amongst the shelter of mature trees. All Arisaema are decidous plants growing from a corm and as such naturally die down in autumn, spending the winter months dormant below ground.

The plants for sale are all containerised and should flower either in their first or second year.
