Phlebodium aureum ‘Blue Star’

Description

Phlebodium aureum ‘Blue Star’ or ‘The Golden Polypody’ as it is commonly known is in fact a rather special blue leaved evergreen fern from central America and warmer parts of North America where it grows as and epiphyte which if you don’t know means it produces attractive furry roots that help it cling the the trunks of trees rather than grow on the ground. Found in moist forests where humidity and rainfall is high Phlebodium aureum ‘Blue Star’ forms dense clumps and will quiet happily grow in a container.

Not hardy but here in the U.K it enjoys spending time outdoors during the warmer months looking great amongst other tender exotics with it’s broad leaves an interesting powdery pale blue. Sometimes sold here as a houseplant, something it is very happy with as long as you give it a bright spot out of direct light keeping up the humidity with regular misting or by standing on a gravel tray which is moist.
