Acer palmatum ‘Shaina’

Description

Acer palmatum ‘Shaina’ is one of my favourite japanese maples. ‘Shaina’ has dark purply red leaves which are topped through the growing season by bright pink-red new growth. It was first discovered growing as a witches broom and as such is a very compact grower. In autumn it turns shades of red, marroon and pink. Quite slow growing ‘Shaina’ makes a lovely small specimen either planted or in a container. Position in appled sun / part shade, out of cold drying winds – especially coastal winds. Suitable for all soils, but avoid waterlogged areas very dry soils will need extra watering.
