Description
Aloidendron barberae is an amazing succulent originating from South Africa. Formerly known as Aloe bainesii or Aloe barberae, or ‘Tree Aloe’, this Aloe-like beauty really packs a punch. It’s bold and architectural with deep green, fleshy sword-shaped leaves reaching upwards.
In the wild it is known to reach up to 18m in height and the pink tubular flowers are pollinated by the very special and beautiful sunbird. Don’t be afraid though – this is a candidate for container growing and staging in a hot sunny position since it is not frost hardy. Grow in free draining, gritty compost and move into a frost free location during the colder months and do not allow to be come waterlogged. Flowering is unlikely in the UK but this is nonetheless a fabulous specimen and a must have.
