Description
Furcraea macdougalii is one of the most impressive plants in the Agave family and although tender, can be container grown in the UK to great effect, if offered winter protection. Forming a large rosette of glaucous blue-green narrow leaves which can reach up to 6ft long, it will eventually form a trunk and in the wild, where it is found in Mexico, plants can reach up to 20ft in height. Here in the UK this is unlikely, however don’t be disheartened, grow in free draining sandy/gritty soil in a container and keep on the dry side in a frost free area over winter, plants are said to be able to withstand temperatures down to -5. You can bring your beautiful Furcraea out for the warmer months and add a bold, architectural statement to your garden. Here we have young 2L plants grown at the nursery.
