Description
Trachystemon orientalis is a surprisingly hard to find member of the borage family, a hardy jungly leafed ground cover herbaceous plant with large oval fresh green slightly hairy leaves forming a lush mound. Perfect in shade and one of the few plants happy to grow under bamboo even tolerating fairly dry conditions. In early spring often before the the leaves emerge dainty plumes holding pretty star shaped blue flowers produced which gently arch over the developing foliage.
Very hardy and can be used much as you would a hosta but fortunately more resistant to slugs and drier soils.
