Description
Alpinia galanga, yes – the much loved and delicious ‘Galangal’ used in cookery and as well as being tasty and healthy, it is a beautiful, leafy and exotic plant. This tender exotic can reach up to 2m in height, with fabuloous zingy-green, large, lance-shaped leaves. In the summer months, terminal clusters of creamy-chite flowers may appear adding further to the wonder of this gorgeous plant. Here in the UK it’s essentiall that Alpinia galanga is kept frost free and ideally about 10 degrees C so it is an ideal candidate for container growing where it can be staged outside in a bright position and moved indoors to a light position in the cooler months. Roots may be harvested when they are big enough to eat!
