Description
Agave funkiana is a rather cool named very rare in cultivation agave originating from arid limestone montain slopes of the dry Sierra Madre Oriental in Mexico where the summer temperatures can be scorching and winters cold and damp. With strong narrow sometimes twisting leaves up to 80cm long and identified from the very similar Agave lechuhuilla by it’s blue grey colour to the upper and lower leaf followed by a pale grey-white stripe through the centre midrib Agave funkiana makes a good contrast to other larger leaved agaves. It should be hardy if kept dry to at least minus 7 degrees celsius preferring very free draining alkaline composts.
A choice rare agave for the spiky plant fan. Easy to cultivate in a container enjoying hot sunny spots.
