Description
Agave salmiana is a wonderful Agave originating from Mexico and naturalised throughout warmer climate zones with impressive huge deep green leaves topped with vicious terminal spines. One of the largest species possible to grow here, capable of reaching 3 or more metres across and almost the same high this is one impressive plant. Also impressive is its remarkable hardiness able to shrug off grey U.K winters seemingly with ease when planted in free draining soils located in sunny positions. In fact the plants we have here originate from seed collected by an Agave expert located in South London when his magnificent plant flowered in 2018, a plant which had been happily growing outside in his garden for 20 years. If you have the space and want some arid drama then this is the perfect plant, just think carefully before you plant, growth can be surprising fast. For lovers of trivia this is the principal species used in Mexico for the production of pulque, a drink similar to Tequila!
