Phymosia umbellata

Description

Phymosia umbellata is a wonderful native of Mexico with velvety blue-green, finely lobed leaves.  A rarely seen member of the Mallow family, Phymosiacontinually produces flowers over a long period, through summer in to October.  The flowers are cup-shaped and a stunning shade of deep cranberry red.  An excellent plant in milder gardens and is best planted in full sun in a sheltered position for the best results.  Phymosia umbellata is said to be hardy to minus seven, we have found it to survive well in Seaford and Pagham.  Otherwise it may be container grown and brought into a cool greenhouse for winter.
