Description
Prunus lusitanica ‘Brenelia’ is a rather aristrocratic form of the well known Portuguese laurel with showy deep glossy green wavy evergreen leaves held on sturdy stems which when young are a deep burgandy red colour. During summer plumes of white flowers are produced which occasionally are following by black berries loved by visiting winter thrushes.
Prunus lusitanica ‘Brenelia’ is generally more compact than it’s larger cousin growing between 3-4 metres high and is happy being clipped either as a topiary specimen or as an elegant hedge. Tolerant of most conditions but avoid waterlogged soils.
