Pseudopanax lessonii ‘Goldfinger’

Description

Pseudopanax lessonii ‘Goldfinger’ – try reading that in any voice other than Shirley Bassey!  Another wonderful form of our much loved Pseudopanax.  With gorgeous leathery, glossy leaves which emerge as ‘golden greenn’ with subtle deeper green marbling. This New Zealand native is suited to a sheltered spot in sun or partial shade.  It may also be grown in a container to great effect. Like most Pseudopanax it is pretty hardy but in the coldest gardens you may experience some frost damage which can be avoided if protection is given or it is moved into a cool greenhouse.  Here on the south coast it seems perfectly happy.  Grow in free draining fertile soil and be sure not to over-water.

Perfect in an exotic border and a must have for the collector.  Can eventually reach up to 2-3m height and spread but ‘Goldfinger’ is not what I’d describe as ‘rampant’ and it may be nipped and tucked to fit in with your scheme.
