Citrus medica (Citron)

Description

Citrus medica is one of the oldest forms of lemon, possibly the parent of all lemon varieties.  It is amazing for the huge fruits it produces, often up to 2.5 kg in weight.  Growing as a small, slightly scruffy shrub or tree naturally, the Citron has wonderfully fragrant flowers which develop into huge pithy fruits favoured for their flavour in both culinary and medicinal use throughout the centurties – possibly originating from persia and grown throughout the mediterranean for centuries.  The citron is a fascinating plant and can be gorwn in a conservatory like other citrus, it may also be placed outside during summer months.  A real talking point.
