Actinidia kolomikta

Description

Actinidia kolomikta is a beautiful and striking member of the Kiwi familiy and whilst you may not get fruits from this variety, you will certainly get a fabulous show of colour.  Loved for the beautiful foliage, Actinidia kolomikta produced an abundance of heart-shaped leaves which overlap each other in layers.  The leaves are ddeply veined and once the plant is establised, the magic occurs – the foliage matures to look as though it has been painted with the tips taking on bright white and pink creating a bold display.  Do be patient with your Actinidia – this colouration appears once the plants are establised so it may take a couple of years but it’s definitely worth the wait!

During the summer months, small white and fragrant flowers appear too which in warmer climates can turn to small ovalfruits – but don’t get your hopes up….we do live in the UK!  Actinidia kolomikta is deciduous so the leaves will fade and fall during autumn but fear not – you can look forward to another spectacular display the following season!

Actinidia kolomikta require free-draining soil and. perform best planted against a sunny wall.  Whilst they are hardy, a little protection from the frost in cooler areas may be prudent to protect the roots from completely freezing.  Will require some support to enable climbing.
