Blechnum tabulare

Description

Blechnum tabulare, commonly known as the ‘Table Mountain Fern’ which if you know your geography, originates from South Africa.  Growing beautifully like a miniature tree fern on stout hairy trunks up to a metre high, Belchnum tabulare is a spectacular evergreen fern.  Each frond growing up to 60cm or more in length, holding simple pinnate leaflets.

We love thie fern for its exotic feel and ease of growth, unfortunately it is not fully hardy, tolerating freezing conditions reluctantly, therefore we recommend either growing outside in a very sheltered garden, or keeping it in a container and bringing indoors during the colder months. It should be noted also that this fern can and does make a beautiful conservatory or house plant.
