Description
Trachycarpus fortunei ‘Tesan’ is a really beautiful rare form of the Chusan Palm which in the wild is found in Northern China where it was isolated for centuries from regular species Trachycarpus fortunei.
The cultivar ‘Tesan’ differs from Trachycarpus fortunei by developing a much thicker densely ‘hairy’ trunk and has larger deeply divided leaves. Trachycarpus fortunei ‘Tesan’ is also fast growing and judging by our experience looks slightly quicker to develop than straight fortunei, perhaps more importantly for palm lovers here in the UK it’s very hardy, down to minus 20 degrees C at least enjoying most soils and happy in both sun and shade. Avoid exposed windy sites if you can to help the large leaves remain beautiful!
So to summarise a robust impressive form of Trachycarpus with larger than type more dissect leaves and a fast growing nature. An exciting new addition to the collection!
