Trithrinax campestris

Description

Trithrinax campestris the ‘Argentinian Blue Palm’ is an awesome palm from Argentina which produces incredibly stiff, blue-grey leaves atop a stout, spiky bleached trunk, making this one of the most impressive palms we are able to grow outside in the milder parts of the UK. In the wild it often forms very large multi-trunked specimens up to 5 metres high the trunks and the leaves are relentless, if you lean on either it is likely you will bleed so be warned, definately not football friendly. In the U.K Trithrinax campestris grows very slowly needing a hot sunny position with perfect drainage, able to cope with freezing conditions but must be well drained at the roots as it will not tolerate waterlogging. Still very rare here and due to it’s slow growth, vicious leaves and trunk unlikely to be popping up at your local garden centre.

Worth trying if you have the right conditions and truly spectacular as it grows. The plants we have here are all U.K grown and between 10 and 20 years old.
