Xanthorrhoea preissii the fabulous mountain ‘Grass Tree’ from Western Australia is perhaps one of the most exciting plants we grow here at Big Plant Nursery. Exclusively imported by us these majestic ‘Grass Trees’ have been salvaged from areas marked for development by the Australian government and carefully acclimatised to relocation here in the U.K. In their native Australia Xanthorrhoea preissii  can be found growing at high altitude even on the slopes of Bluff Knoll the highest mountain in Western Australia where winter snow fall is regular. For us we’d recommend a hot sunny position in a warm microclimate where they should at least be able to cope with minus 5 degrees centigrade given perfect drainage. Growing just one centimetre a year ultimately reaching 2-3 metres high, randomly branched they make incredible living sculptures being suitable for long term container cultivation and happy both outdoors and indoors in suitable bright conditions.
